David J. Doorey

David J. Doorey is an associate professor of work law and industrial relations at York University and academic director of Osgoode Hall Law School’s executive LLM program specializing in labour and employment law. He is a senior research associate at Harvard Law School’s Labor and Worklife Program and a visiting research fellow at Harvard Law School in 2019-20. Professor Doorey is a recipient of the prestigious Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at York and is a regular media commentator on work law and industrial relations. His scholarly articles have been published in leading Canadian and foreign law journals, and he is articles review editor of the Canadian Labour and Employment Law Journal. He was a recipient of the Morley Gunderson Prize and the H.D. Woods Prize for Outstanding contributions to Canadian industrial relations. He is the editor of the popular law blog Canadian Law of Work Forum and his previous blog The Law of Work was the recipient of the top law blog in Canada on multiple occasions. He was called to the law bars of Ontario and British Columbia and practiced labour law on behalf of employees and unions in both provinces before returning to academia. Professor Doorey was educated at the University of Toronto (BA, MIR), London School of Economics and Political Science (LLM Labour Law), and Osgoode Hall Law School (JD, PhD). He lives in Toronto’s west end and in Prince Edward County with his family and Australian Labradoodle, and he coaches kids’ hockey.
