Jennifer Gibson

Jennifer Gibson, BA (Hons), LLB, was called to the Ontario Bar in 2000. At twelve years of age, Jennifer decided that she wanted to be a lawyer when she watched old Perry Mason reruns on television. Choosing between her love of stage acting and law was a difficult decision but becoming a criminal trial lawyer was a happy medium. Jennifer articled for what was then Gold & Fuerst, before beginning with the Toronto Crown’s Office in January 2000. As an Assistant Crown Attorney, she prosecuted all types of offences for many years. In 2011, Jennifer started on the specialized Child Abuse Team, which deals with all of the child abuse cases, exploitation offences and long-term supervision order breaches in the downtown Toronto office. In July 2012, she became the Team Lead, holding that role until she became the Deputy of the Specialty Teams at Old City Hall in September 2016. Over the last eight years, Jennifer has specialized in prosecutions involving vulnerable victims, developing an expertise in child abuse and exploitation cases as well as high-risk offenders. She has presented at the Police College and various Crown training initiatives on issues relating to child abuse cases and long-term offender breaches, as well as being a resource for Crowns and police alike in their day-to-day work. As part of the Joint Protocol for Child Abuse Investigations Committee at the Toronto Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, Jennifer has worked on revising the best practices for child abuse investigations involving schools, child protection agencies, the police, and the justice system, which is due to be published in late 2018. She has prosecuted cases involving the abuse of children at both the Ontario and the Superior Courts of Justice. Jennifer is the proud mom of two active hockey-playing boys that keep her busy the rest of the time.
