Lorne Sossin

Lorne Sossin was appointed to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in 2018. Prior to his appointment, Justice Sossin was a professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, at York University and served as its dean between 2010 and 2018. Professor Sossin was formerly a professor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, a former litigation lawyer with the firm that is now Borden Ladner Gervais, and a law clerk to former Chief Justice Antonio Lamer of the Supreme Court of Canada. He holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School, and doctorates in both political science (University of Toronto) and law (Columbia University).

Justice Sossin has published numerous books, journal articles, reviews, and essays, including Administrative Law in Context, 3rd ed (Toronto: Emond, 2018) (co-edited with Colleen Flood) and Administrative Law in Practice: Principles and Advocacy (Toronto: Emond, 2018) (co-authored with Emily Lawrence). He is the recipient of a number of teaching and writing awards, including the 2012 David Mundell Medal for Excellence in Legal Writing.

Prior to his appointment, Justice Sossin served in several roles within the administrative justice system, including as an advisor to a variety of agencies and tribunals, and as a Vice Chair of the Ontario Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and of the Health Services Appeal and Review Board. He also held posts with the City of Toronto, including as Integrity Commissioner and as the Open Meeting Investigator.
