Barbara Billingsley
Barbara Billingsley (B.A., LL.B., LL.M., University of Alberta) is a professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta. Her teaching and research interests focus primarily on insurance law, civil process, and constitutional law in the context of private law issues. She is a recipient of the Faculty of Law’s Tevie Miller Teaching Award (2005) and the author of General Principles of Canadian Insurance Law, 2nd edition (LexisNexis, 2014). Before joining the faculty full-time in 2001, Professor Billingsley served as a contract instructor and practiced civil litigation (primarily in the area of insurance defence work) at the Edmonton law firms of Brownlee Fryett and Sharek Reay. She is currently a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of the Northwest Territories, the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Insurance Law and the Board of the Edmonton Bar Association. She is also the vice-chair of The Advisory Board of the Centre for Constitutional Studies.
