David Schermbrucker
David Schermbrucker is general counsel with the Public Prosecution Service Canada in Halifax. Called to the Ontario bar in 1989, David was defence counsel for ten years in Toronto before moving with his family to Halifax. Since then, he has been a prosecutor on files involving drugs, organized crime, and national security. He has spent many years providing litigation support to the private practitioners who serve as legal agents for the federal Crown. David’s practice focuses on criminal appeals, and he has appeared regularly in the Courts of Appeal in the Atlantic Region, Ontario, and the North and in the Supreme Court of Canada. He has presented courses to police, law students, lawyers, and judges and has been responsible for the RCMP Search Warrant Course in Halifax for ten years. David has been a faculty member of the Federation of Law Societies’ National Criminal Law Program since 2004.
