Kent McNeil

Kent McNeil (BA, LLB, Saskatchewan; DPhil, Oxford) is an emeritus distinguished research professor at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, where he taught from 1987 to 2016. He is the author of numerous works on the rights of Indigenous peoples, including three books: Common Law Aboriginal Title (1989), Emerging Justice? Essays on Indigenous Rights in Canada and Australia (2001), and Flawed Precedent: The St. Catherine’s Case and Aboriginal Title (2019). He has also co-edited three collections of essays on Indigenous rights, most recently Voicing Identity: Cultural Appropriation and Indigenous Issues (2022), with John Borrows. His work has been relied upon in leading Indigenous rights cases in Canada and Australia. He is an honorary member of the Indigenous Bar Association and a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
