Roger G. Oatley
Roger G. Oatley (B.A., LL.B) is one of the country’s leading personal injury lawyers, and a founding partner of Oatley Vigmond LLP. The former President of the Advocates’ Society, Ontario’s largest organization of trial lawyers and judges, Oatley is a widely published author on trial advocacy and personal injury law. He authored Canada’s only book on jury advocacy, Addressing the Jury and has co-authored several other publications. In 2015, Oatley was named Best Lawyers’ 2015 Personal Injury Litigation “Lawyer of the Year” in Ontario.
Roger Oatley has been elected Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is considered a leader in the development of innovative trial techniques, and has addressed various associations across Canada and in the United States including the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Institute, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, the Advocates’ Society, the British Columbia CLE Society, the Alberta CLE Society, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He has been a guest speaker at conferences held by the Justice of the Superior Court and by the Justice of Ontario. In 1998 the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association established an annual lecture series in Oatley’s honour to recognize his outstanding success as a jury lawyer and his contribution to the teaching of trial advocacy to other lawyers.
