Susan Magotiaux

Susan Magotiaux obtained her LLB and MSW degrees from the University of Toronto in 2000. She has worked as Crown Counsel at the Crown Law Office - Criminal, in the Ministry of Attorney General for the Province of Ontario since her call to the bar 2002.

Susan has prosecuted criminal cases at all levels of court in Canada, including numerous appearances at the Supreme Court of Canada on matters of digital evidence, search and seizure and informer privilege. As counsel at Crown Law Office Criminal, Susan has provided frequent advice to police on issues related to search and seizure, digital evidence, wiretap and privilege. She has also handled extraditions and requests for assistance under Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act and worked on policy development and submissions regarding Criminal Code amendment.

Susan co-authors the seminal loose-leaf text The Law of Privilege in Canada with Robert Hubbard and Suzanne Duncan (Thomson Reuters). She lectures frequently to judiciary, lawyers and law enforcement on issues of search and seizure, electronic surveillance, and privilege. She is a member of the Advocates Society and past Chair of their Criminal Law Practice Group.
